Self-funding

Many people pay for their home care and support using their own private funds or with help from family or friends. If you know that you are above the threshold (£23,250) for financial support from Adult Social care then you will need to cover the full cost of your care needs.

The amount you pay towards your long-term care is worked out as if you’re already receiving all the benefits you’re entitled to. So it’s important to claim everything you can, otherwise you’ll end up paying more than you need to.

Age Concern Eastbourne has a Welfare Rights department comprising of highly trained staff and volunteers who visit clients in their own homes to help them complete the lengthy welfare benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance, Carers Allowance, PIP, DLA and Blue Badge applications. The team can also advise on potential entitlement to other benefits and allowances such as Pension Credit and Council Tax Benefit and can refer clients on to other agencies for further assistance.

In the last year, the outreach team has raised over £600,000 of additional income for older people in Eastbourne and surrounding areas.

For further information individuals are able to walk in and use our free Information and Advice service within the William and Patricia Venton Centre. This service is available Mon-Fri 9.30-1pm and is a drop in service run by volunteers, alternatively you can call reception on 01323 638474.
